My Journey with the Amazon Affiliate Program
Two years ago, when I first started this channel, I eagerly applied for the Amazon affiliate program. At that time, I only had about 10 subscribers, most of them being my family and friends. During the review process, I earned a meager commission of around a dollar fifty or two dollars. However, a few weeks later, I received an email from Amazon stating that I didn't qualify due to my lack of following or "juice," as they put it. Initially, I didn't think much of it and continued my journey on YouTube, working hard to grow my channel.
Fast forward six months, and I finally reached 100 subscribers. Encouraged by this milestone, I decided to give the Amazon affiliate program another shot. This time around, I managed to earn around $10 in commissions. However, despite my efforts, I received the same disappointing email stating that I still didn't have enough of a following.
But this time, rather than simply deleting the email and moving on, I decided to read it thoroughly. One thing caught my attention – the number 500. According to Amazon, I needed at least 500 subscribers on any platform, be it Twitter, Instagram, or YouTube, to qualify for the affiliate program. This realization made me feel disheartened, as I thought it would take forever to reach that milestone.
Undeterred, I continued to work on my channel, and after almost a year, on Christmas day of 2020, I hit the coveted 500 subscribers mark. Without wasting any time, I applied for the Amazon affiliate program once again. This time, something amazing happened – I was accepted into the program! I was ecstatic. Within the first seven days of being a part of the program, I earned approximately seven dollars in commissions.
In my particular situation, having 500 subscribers was crucial, but there was an additional factor that played a role in my acceptance. On this channel, I had accumulated around 4,000 hours of watch time. I don't know if Amazon takes watch time into consideration along with subscribers, but in my case, it seemed to have made a difference.
Now, I have been an Amazon affiliate for the past 13 months, and I'm grateful for the opportunities it has provided. It was a challenging journey, but persistence pays off. So for those of you aspiring affiliate marketers, I hope my story inspires you to keep pushing forward, even when faced with rejection.
Remember, success might not come right away, but with dedication and hard work, you can achieve your goals. And who knows? Maybe you'll be celebrating your acceptance into the affiliate program sooner than you think.
